A bus driver has been reprimanded in front of passengers as part of a police crackdown on speeding in Leicestershire.

The vehicle was stopped on Coventry Road, Hinckley, after being recorded travelling at 38mph in a 30mph area.

Officers carried out the operation after residents flagged up speeding traffic as a community issue.

Police added that while only verbal warnings were given, fines could be used if the problem persisted.

A number of other drivers were also stopped on the road, and on Roston Drive and Outlands Drive, during the operation last week.

Pc Barry Miller, of Hinckley and Bosworth local policing unit, said: "we wanted to strike the right balance between driver education and enforcement, which is why we are giving warnings at this stage.

"if the problem persists we will consider prosecuting offenders, or approaching the county council for traffic calming measures. the residents are fed up."
