How To Speed Up Your Computer « IT Professionals

It’s a fairly general idea. However when you’re  looking up how to speed up your computer, most of the advice out there is generally incomplete. No, that may not be fair. the truth of the matter is that there are entirely too many issues that can contribute to a slow computer for one article to adequately address a singular solution.

To keep this in this light, suffice it to say that most of the time a slow computer comes down to one of the following issues, needing to be addressed.

1) Malware infestation. the fastest way to bring a Windows PC to a crawl is with a nasty malware issue to deal with. I mean let’s face it, if your CPU cycles and memory is filled with sorting the needs of malware running on a system, chances are pretty darned good your PC experience is going to suffer, fast.

2) Too many startup programs. It’s bound to happen, we install various applications with “helper” functions designed to run in the background and allow specific software to startup a little faster.

3) Need more RAM. To borrow a phrase from one of my all time fictional childhood heroes; “I’m giving her all she’s got, Captain!” unfortunately, sometimes it’s just not enough. Adding RAM for your PC can indeed, add new life to your computer assuming you’ve verified none of the above issues are creating problems.

One common myth I want to dispel right now. No, a bad power supply unit (PSU) isn’t going to slow your computer down. sure, it can definitely cause some fairly significant errors and reboots, but speed isn’t on the menu for a poor PSU.

So there you have it. again, this article is more a tool to help those who find it understand what might be creating the slow down, so that further investigation can be taken from there. otherwise, assuming that only looking into one possibility, leads the end user no where – fast.
